Tuesday, KVO names a necklace after a special woman, but today we are naming a pair of earrings after a woman named Kathy Doyle who Claudia and I know from Chatham, Massachusetts. Kathy was a good friend of Claudia’s when she lived on Cape Cod and she worked for Kathy for a time at her store called Sundance Jeans. When Claudia met Kathy she was in the midst of a major life change and Kathy was a supportive, loving, and unwavering friend. She was there when Claudia needed help. I also worked at Sundance Jeans for a summer and this is where I grew to know Kathy as well. Kathy is one of those women in your life that you regret losing touch with, one that you think of often even though you are not connected presently, and a woman who had a profound impact on your life and she probably doesn’t even know it! Kathy and Sundance Jeans at the time was a place where everyone from police to tradesmen to shop owners to restaurateurs to other women would come for council, a warm smile and embrace, and friendship. She cared about her community and she was committed to it, as I am sure she still is to this day. As a young twenty something, I was watching….watching closely because Kathy was a role model for not just what it meant to be a business owner but more importantly what it meant to treat others with love and compassion and support. The seeds of our KVO mantra of “women helping women” came from Kathy’s example. These earrings are…..well…..fabulous. And Kathy, you are fabulous. We miss you and hope this finds you well. Xoxo
